Relentlessly Ignoring

(2022 - 2025)

Trash is a quiet constant we choose to ignore. We step over it daily, filtering our gaze to avoid confronting our own role in a larger, unsustainable system of overconsumption. There is a collective anonymity in what we discard. We participate in the chaos, but we look away to escape accountability. I think waste holds profound stories: It reflects our habits, our desires, and our blind spots.Where the outside world sees chaos, there is often a hidden system of memory, protection, and history. By capturing the vulnerability of these spaces, this work reveals the complex, individual truths we abandon in the things we discard.

This work is shaped by my own history, having grown up in a house overflowing with forgotten things. As a child, I found a strange joy in hidden spaces, viewing discarded items with an intuitive, playful fascination. Today, looking at the waste scattered across our public spaces, that fascination has evolved into a complex tension. Photographing discarded objects on the streets brings an unsettling mix of nostalgia and guilt, exploring the thin line between comfort and shame.

I document the things we choose to look past. By capturing worn items in the open environment, this series transforms the overlooked into something that demands attention. It might be hard to look at, but it is important. The intentional beauty in these images serves to challenge our instinct to look away.
